Semiconductor Focus: Caught in the Patent Currents

UK-based World IP Review was kind enough to interview me recently in connection with its focus on the semiconductor industry and patent litigation.  We discussed the impact of rising costs and continued threats by NPE’s as well as ways to reduce the impact such as increased use of mediation.  You can read the article at Semiconductor focus: Caught in the patent currents.

It should come as no surprise that I very much like the analogy the reporter chose of companies “being caught in the patent currents”.  This appropriately describes how easily companies get caught up in patent litigation, the complexities and costs of which tend – naturally, neglectfully, and sometimes intentionally – to expand rather than contract.
